A message from our marae chair

Tēnā koē, welcome to our marae website.
I would like to extend a warm welcome and thank you for your continued aroha, tautoko and dedication to uphold the mana of our marae. Together, we continue to strive to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of our tūpuna, kuia and koroua, who always led by example, unconditionally offering their knowledge to allow us to learn, grow and now pass these teachings onto the next generation and future generations to come.
I encourage you to come along and support our marae kōmiti. You will see first hand the diverse range of kaupapa that requires our attention as a whānau, marae and hapū.
We are always keen to hear suggestions and provide support should you wish to become more involved with the running of our marae. There are many kaupapa that need our collective attention. Most of this mahi is not seen by most, however, enjoyed by the many.
Our monthly marae meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of each month, 7:30pm sharp.
Kia kaha whānau, nau mai, tautoko mai.
I would also like to encourage you to register with our marae. As a registered marae member, you will be kept up to date with various kaupapa being held, marae up-keep & maintenance, marae meetings, working bees, ko tātou tēnā hei manaaki e tīaki ō tātou marae.
As a registered member you will also gain access to our very own Pātaka Kōrero – Digital Archive that stores and preserves our digital taonga. You may also have an opportunity to contribute and share your knowledge to encourage and inspire our mokopuna to learn who they are and why they belong.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to browse our website. Please feel free to reach-out via our contact page should you have any comments or suggestions.
Nāku me akū mihi,
Neville Heihei – Chairman
Register with Matau

Marae registration is for whānau/hapū members who connect/whakapapa to Matau.
Registered marae members gain member access to our marae digital taonga and resources in Pātaka Kōrero.
Watch recorded episodes presented by our own whānau/hapū members who share various kaupapa kōrero about Ngāti Huia ki Matau, our history, how we came to settle in Poroutawhao, relocation of Matau to the current site, re-opening of the marae, Sites of significance and more.
This platform represents a snippet of our history which we intend to grow in the future to provide further resources and information for marae members who seek to learn.
We also welcome those who are willing to contribute to this knowledge base for our future generations.
